A man believed to be in his mid-thirties has been killed by a lion at Accra Zoo in an alleged attempt to steal a cub.
He was spotted around the premises on Sunday around 12 noon, after he managed to scale the zoo’s security fence, according to the Forestry Commission.
The intruder, who has yet to be identified, was pounced on by the lions and devoured in what is suspected to be an attempt to steal a cub.
Authorities revealed in a statement issued by the Forestry Commission that the intruder was attacked and injured “within the inner fencing of the enclosure.”
He was afterwards taken to the mortuary after passing succumbing to his injuries.

The zoo officials have successfully lured the lions into a safe enclosure and called in the Achimota Police to transport the body to start an investigation.
“No lion has escaped from the zoo as a result of the event,” the Commission emphasized.
Following this incident, Benito Owusu Bio, the deputy minister of lands and natural resources, and John Allotey, the chief executive of the forestry commission, visited the zoo to make sure that “all facilities remain secure,” according to the statement.
