Following reports of an armed attack and kidnapping of women farmers in the area by some suspected kidnappers, the Savannah Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has deployed a heavily armed joint police-military team to Mempeasem in the West Gonja Municipality.
According to information gathered by 3news.com, some gunmen, suspected of being kidnappers, have kidnapped women who went to farm in Mempeasem to harvest groundnuts.
The women’s screams were heard by some male farmers, who immediately mobilised to rescue the women.
The local search party overpowered and arrested one of the suspected kidnappers, who was then handed over to the community chief.
At the time of writing, well-armed military and police officers had been dispatched to the area.

Saeed Muhazu Jibril, Minister of the Savannah Region and Chairman of REGSEC has assured residents that security is under control of the situation.
He urged residents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious individuals to security for prompt action.
