After the Black Stars’ dominant win over Switzerland on Thursday, defender Mohammed Salisu praised the quality of his teammates.
Salisu scored Ghana’s first goal against Switzerland and was also impressive defensively as the Stars kept a clean sheet.
In the first half, the Southampton center-back came close to breaking the deadlock, but his effort was blocked.
He made amends in the second half, expertly looping a header over Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
Salisu said after the game that he regretted missing the first-half chance, but that it only motivated him to score in the second half.
“I should have scored a first-half goal but missed it. In my mind, I felt I needed to score when I got the second chance in the second half,” he told Joy Sports.
The Black Stars play Portugal in their first group game on November 24, followed by South Korea and Uruguay.
Salisu believes the team has the talent to compete with the best in the world in Qatar, but he emphasises that focus is essential.

“We’re all from different clubs, but the team has good quality,” he said.
“They’re playing at the highest level. It’s a young team with a lot of potential. We can accomplish more if we concentrate on our journey.”
