The Wa Circuit Court has sentenced three men to a combined 64 years in prison for their involvement in a string of robbery cases that shook parts of the Upper West Region in recent months.
The convicts – Adinan Mahmoud, alias Okra, Abdulai Ibrahim, alias Baba, and Abdulai Kipo – were found guilty of multiple counts of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery. The sentencing follows a successful series of operations by the Upper West Regional Police Command aimed at clamping down on violent crime in the region.
Adinan Mahmoud, a 25-year-old considered a notorious figure by police and previously on the region’s Most Wanted List, was sentenced on Monday, June 2, to 18 years imprisonment with hard labour. He pleaded guilty to all charges and was convicted accordingly.
His arrest on May 31, 2025, came after an intelligence-led operation at his hideout in Sandemuni, a suburb of Wa.
On Tuesday, June 3, his accomplice, Abdulai Ibrahim (alias Baba), was sentenced to 13 years. The following day, he received an additional 15-year sentence, bringing his total to 28 years behind bars.
The third accused, Abdulai Kipo, was handed a sentence of 18 years imprisonment after being found guilty at the end of his trial. Both Kipo and Ibrahim had pleaded not guilty, but the court, presided over by His Honour Jonathan Avoogo, ruled against them based on the weight of the evidence.
In a statement, the Upper West Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling armed robbery and maintaining public safety.
“We remain resolute in our efforts to track down and bring to justice all individuals who pose a threat to peace and security in the region,” the statement read.
