Universities in Nigeria ordered to close ahead of the election

Because of the general elections on February 25, the Nigerian National Universities Commission (NUC) has ordered the country’s universities to close from February 22 to March 14.

Concerns about the safety and security of staff and students during the poll prompted the decision.

According to local media, the NUC is part of the Federal Ministry of Education and was given the order by Education Minister Adamu Adamu.

Because of the country’s ongoing insecurity issues, there has been some concern about whether the elections will be held as planned on February 25.

The head of the electoral commission, however, has insisted that they will take place.

Young people account for a sizable proportion of those registered to vote in the election.
