Amen Adams, a US-based Ghanaian, was driven out of his area in Nima, Accra, after reportedly being caught in the act with an accused gay lover, and his expectations for calm and wonderful Christmas in Ghana were dashed.
Adams, who had come home for the first time in over 5 years, was unaware that his own boyhood friends had already circulated rumors about his gay inclination throughout the neighborhood.
Homosexuality is abhorred and frowned upon in a conservative Muslim-dominated culture, with serious penalties for violators.
Adams was watched so closely when he came to Ghana a few months ago that when a male friend visited him one day, the youngsters in the town watched their every move until he disappeared.
Unsatisfied, the enraged adolescent who had been watching Adams and his companion rushed to his residence, accusing his visitor of being his gay boyfriend. Some stated they witnessed the two males fondling each other.
Adams managed to flee the next conflict, escaping for his life and hasn’t returned to his house or the town since.

Unfortunately for his putative partner, who didn’t know the neighborhood well enough to flee, he was captured and beaten like a robber, his clothing torn to bits before being allowed to go free when he could barely walk.
According to a family member, Adams is either hiding in a hotel or has returned to the United States, fearing he will never return to his hometown again.
