Transport unions will meet today, Monday September 19, ahead of their meeting with the transport ministry on Tuesday September 20 to discuss the unions’ proposed 30% increase in transportation fares.
The Concerned Drivers Association’s Public Relations Officer, David Agboado, told Alfred Ocansey on 3FM Sunrise Morning Show that they agreed to raise transportation fares by 10% if fuel prices rise by 10%.
“We agreed that any time there is a 10% increase in fuel prices, we will raise transportation fares, and the accumulation of increases in petroleum prices over the last few months is more than 10%,” he said.
He stated that an increase is unavoidable due to the skyrocketing prices of other inputs such as spare parts and maintenance costs.

“We are not happy that we have raised transportation fares twice this year, with a third on the way, but the situation we are in is forcing us to do so.” Some taxes must be scrutinized.
“They do not have to be eliminated entirely, but they must be reduced, such as the price stabilisation and recovery levy, special petroleum tax, sanitation and pollution levy, and others from which we are not direct beneficiaries,” Agboado said.
