The strike by pre-tertiary teachers protesting Dr Eric Nkansah’s appointment as Director General of the Ghana Education Service has ended after the courts issued an injunction against them.
“We have decided to obey the court’s orders and have asked our members to call off the strike and return to the classroom,” said Angel Cabornu, President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT).
The National Labour Commission had directed the teachers to end the strike prior to the court injunction.
Mr Carbonu suggested that the teachers were working to end the strike before the courts forced them to.
“We were trying to check in with our lines to make sure everything was in order.” “We’re law-abiding citizens,” he said.
Mr Carbonu stated that the teachers will continue to engage with the government after the strike ends.
The teachers want Dr Nkansah’s appointment to be revoked.
So far, meetings between the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations and labour unions have been fruitless.
NAGRAT joined the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers, Ghana in the strike (CCT).
They claim that Dr. Nkansah lacks the necessary teaching experience to lead the service.

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) supported their strike, claiming that such appointments were illegal.
