Teacher Unions declare nationwide strike over the new Directors appointment

Three teacher unions have called a nationwide strike in protest of the appointment of a banker to the position of Director-General of Education.

They are the National Presidents of the Ghana National Association of Teachers, the National Association of Graduate Teachers, and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers.

The strike goes into effect immediately today, Friday, November 4,2022.

In a statement to the media, the President of GNAT stated that 17 DGs have been appointed since the inception of the Ghana Education Service, and all of them have been educators.

So the appointment of Dr. Eric Nkansah as DG defies expectations.

Again, the extension of Anthony Boateng’s contract for the third time is unacceptable because there are many directors vying for that position.
