Takoradi Technical University’s administration has temporarily halted the organisation of all religious and social gatherings on the school’s campus.
It stated that the decision was made in response to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the Western Region and across the country.
According to management, the ban is in effect “immediately.”
It stated that organisers of any religious or social event should use available technologies such as Zoom conferencing to avoid physical contact.
“With the increase in Covid-19 infections in the region and country, Management is banning all religious and large social gathering activities on all campuses with immediate effect,” according to the University’s notice.
In addition, the University directed lecturers to use alternative methods to engage their students.
Meanwhile, the University has directed its security officers and the COVID-19 task force team to strictly enforce the new directives in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service.

“As a result, the campus security section and the Covid-19 Taskforce Team have been directed to ensure strict adherence and enforcement in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service.” Staff and students are once again urged to adhere to all Covid-19 safety protocols and to be cautious in their movements in order to avoid contracting this lethal virus,” the University added.
The Western Region ranks third in terms of regions with the highest COVID-19 burden in the country.
It had recorded a total of 3,498 cases as of January 27, 2021. The region currently has active cases with an 89% recovery rate.
