Six people were killed in a car accident at Aprede

Six people have been confirmed dead in a fatal accident that occurred today, Friday, October 7, 2022, at Aprede mountain in the Okere District of the Eastern Region.

The incident occurred around 1:30 pm and involved a Sprinter Benz bus with the registration number GY 1570-13 that was transporting passengers from Koforidua to Aflao to attend a funeral.

According to another driver, Mr. Tetteh, who was travelling in the opposite direction and witnessed the accident, he signaled the Sprinter Benz bus driver who was over-speeding while descending the mountain to slow down due to the nature of the road, but he ignored him.

When the driver approached a sharp curve, he allegedly lost control of the wheel due to the vehicle’s speed, and the vehicle somersaulted before landing in the ditch.

Meanwhile, other passengers who were seriously injured are being treated at the Yilo Krobo Government Hospital in Somanya.

“The driver should be blamed; he was speeding and I told him to slow down, but he didn’t even look at me, so I’m not surprised this unfortunate incident occurred; the car somersaulted several times,” he explained.

A month ago, four students from the University of Education in Winneba were on an educational trip when they were involved in an accident on that same stretch of the Aprede mountain.
