Dr. George Domfeh, a Development Economist, says that sacking Ghana’s Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, will not solve the country’s problems.
The Finance Minister should be fired immediately, according to 80 New Patriotic Party MPs.
According to them, Mr Ofori-continued Atta’s tenure in office is delaying the country’s IMF bailout request because the Minister has lost all credibility.
As a result, they have petitioned the President to remove him or face a boycott in Parliament.
In response to the NPP MPs’ move, Dr. Domfeh stated that, while calls for the Minister’s removal are justified, the current economic woes did not begin with the current government.
According to the University of Ghana lecturer, the problems have accumulated as a result of previous governments’ mistakes that were not addressed.
The Economist, who made these remarks on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem show, suggested that calls for Mr Ofori-resignation Atta’s should serve as a wake-up call for the country.
