Residents block Osino-Saamang road in protest

Osino residents in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region have protested the deplorable condition of the Osino-Saamang Road.

Protesters blocked the road on Wednesday morning to express their displeasure with companies that use heavy trucks to destroy the road.

They demand that the companies build their road before they can use them.

“You see these big trucks; they’ve been using this stretch for the last month.” We’ve complained several times, but they won’t listen. We’ve closed the road.”

None could recall the company’s name, but they believe the mining companies in the area have exacerbated the road’s condition.

“We don’t know if they mine gold or sand, but their activities on the road with the tipper truck have made our road worse.” They are unconcerned about reshaping the road as part of their corporate [social] responsibility. We will not allow them to continue using the road.”

“We’re allowing small cars to pass, but not large ones,” said another. They have completely destroyed our road. During the Harmattan period, the dust is unbearable.”
