Renato Sanches is the most notable omission from Portugal’s squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Fernando Santos named 26 players, excluding the PSG midfielder named Young Player of the Tournament when Portugal won the Euros in 2016.
Last year, he was a member of Portugal’s squad for the European Championship, where he received praise for his performances.
He was also named to Santos’ preliminary World Cup squad of 55 players, but he will not be on Portugal’s flight to Qatar.
Unsurprisingly, Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo leads the squad, who will compete in his fifth World Cup this month.
Portugal will play a pre-tournament friendly against Nigeria on November 17 before beginning their tournament campaign.
