The Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) has stated that it is working closely with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to resolve the institution’s challenges.
People across the country have been complaining about their inability to load credit onto prepaid meters in recent days.
Business owners have also expressed concern about the challenge’s impact on operations.
ECG, on the other hand, has blamed the difficulty on a technical glitch, assuring that efforts are being made to resolve the issue.
In an interview with Citi News, PURC Public Relations Officer Simon Ali stated that the Commission is working with ECG to avoid a repeat in the future.
“We have tasked all commission staff in all ECG operational areas to monitor the situation and report to the commission on the unfortunate development.” “The Commission is also in discussions with service providers to put together a number of measures to prevent future occurrences of the current situation,” he said.
The ECG announced last Tuesday that a technical issue had affected its prepaid metering systems, causing the purchase of electricity credit to be halted.

Domestic and commercial customers who lost power were unable to make purchases due to technical difficulties.
However, following a disruption to its prepaid metering systems that left customers stranded, the utility service provider is now able to sell credit at its district offices.
Customers in the Greater Accra, Central, Eastern, Western, and Volta Regions can currently purchase electricity from ECG district offices.
In a statement, ECG assured customers using its prepaid metering systems that its team is “working progressively to correct the technical anomaly that impacted the purchase of electricity.”
Some electricity customers have been counting their losses, with some claiming that their businesses have suffered as a result of their inability to purchase electricity.
