More inconsistencies are emerging in the government’s account of how Aisha Huang, a notorious illegal miner, left the country in 2018.
Despite the government providing evidence of a repatriation notice and Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated that she was repatriated, prosecutors in court on Wednesday stated that Aisha Huang fled Ghana following her arrest in 2017.
According to evidence presented in court on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, she sneaked back into Ghana early in 2022.
Following the court hearing on Wednesday, Aisha Huang and three others were denied bail.
She is on trial alongside three other Chinese citizens: Jong Li Hua, Huang Jei, and Huaid Hai Hun.
They were all charged with mining without a valid licence and selling and purchasing minerals without a permit.
Since Aisha Huang was arrested earlier this month, there has been speculation about how she left Ghana and returned.
According to initial reports, she was deported in 2018 after filing a nolle prosequi to end an earlier case against her.

However, North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa claimed Aisha Huang was not escorted as required during her “supposed deportation.”
In the days following Mr Ablakwa’s remarks, President Akufo-Addo stated that he did not know whether Aisha Huang was deported from Ghana in 2018 or fled.
This prompted the government to release documents indicating she was served with a repatriation notice in December 2018.
The Information Minister also confirmed that Aisha Huang had been returned home.
