The prosecutor in charge of the case involving three Opoku Ware School (OWASS) pupils who are accused of robbing and hurting a cab driver is pleading for a swift trial.
After a truck driver complained to the authorities that he had been attacked by the three, they were all taken into custody in August.
The boys, between the ages of 17 and 19 years, patronized the services of a cab driver under the pretext of travelling to the Lancaster Kumasi City Hotel. They forced the driver to hand over his ignition keys to them as they neared their destination.
But a struggle for the keys ensued between students and the driver.
In order to give the accused time to complete their final examinations, they were originally detained in police custody and then given bail during the second hearing.
According to the prosecutor, ACP Kofi Blagodzi, “the court requested us to file our witness statement and then the disclosures and they have scheduled it for the October 6 so when we file before that date, then the case management will commence so prosecution moves on.”

During his third court appearance, ACP Kofi Blagodzi asked the KMA Circuit Court to expedite the trial due to the public interest in the case.
He spoke with Citi News following the court proceedings.
“The case has a national interest, so we want to ensure that the prosecution continues so that we conclude this.”
The three students, who had been expelled from the Opoku Ware School boarding house for misbehaviour, injured and robbed a taxi driver after boarding his vehicle in Kumasi.
According to police, after robbing the driver and stabbing him in the neck, one of the students took over the wheel but was involved in an accident near Ahodwo.
The driver then alerted other people who were nearby at the time, who assisted in the arrest of two of them.
The third accused was later apprehended.
