The police have announced that, as part of the ongoing investigation into the Ellembelle excavators, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has been contacted for information on the immigration status and Ghanaian sponsors of the five arrested Chinese illegal small-scale miners (galamseyers).
The five Chinese suspects were arrested for their involvement in the case, according to a police statement.
Shi zhong Qix, Wei Lin Xi, Huang Qian Xi, Li Jian Wen, and Huang Qian Sheng were apprehended at their hideout at Asiama, in the Ellembe District of the Western Region, during the night of September 7th to the morning of September 8th, 2022.
“As the investigation continues, we want to assure the public that all other suspects, both Ghanaians and foreigners, will be apprehended and brought to justice.”
“Meanwhile, Mr. Kwasi Bonzo, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ellembelle, has been granted police enquiry bail.”
“We would like to commend the Regional and all of the teams involved in the operations for their ongoing selflessness and patriotism,” said the Police.
