The Ghana Police Service has provided a full account of the events leading to the killing of young soldier Imoro Sherrif, who was found dead in Ashaiman Taifa on March 4, 2023. Following days of intensive investigations, six suspects have been arrested and are expected to appear in court today, March 13.
According to a statement issued by the police on Sunday, March 12, the breakthrough came after a week-long intelligence-led operation in Ashaiman and surrounding areas. The suspects were arrested in various hideouts between March 9 and March 12.
Investigations revealed that Imoro Sherrif, who was stationed in Sunyani but had traveled to Accra for a course, visited a female friend in Ashaiman Newtown late on March 3. He left around 1:30 a.m. on March 4 and was attacked shortly after.
Two suspects, Samuel Tetteh (alias Wiper) and Abubakar Sadick (alias Birdman), attempted to rob Sherrif of his phone and backpack. During the struggle, Tetteh allegedly stabbed the soldier in the left arm with a knife, causing fatal injuries. The attackers fled the scene with his belongings, leaving the knife lodged in his arm.
Police responding to the scene found Sherrif’s military uniform, personal IDs, a blood-stained knife, and a backpack containing electronics. His identity was confirmed by military personnel shortly afterward.
The suspects sold the stolen phone through multiple channels. It eventually passed through Ibrahim Abdul Rakib, Safianu Musah (alias Dayorgu), Yussif Mohammed, and Abdul Gafaru Abdul Karim — all of whom are now in custody and assisting with efforts to recover the phone.
A postmortem conducted on March 8 concluded the cause of death was exsanguination due to a laceration of major vessels in the arm.
Ongoing Investigation and Support
The police have since briefed the victim’s family and assured them that justice will be served. They also expressed gratitude to the officers and intelligence teams who worked tirelessly on the case.
“We want to reassure the public, particularly the family of the deceased, that all six suspects are in police custody and will face justice,” the police statement said.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to a thorough and transparent investigation.
