Phone repairer injures a laborer with a machete

Following a disagreement over non-payment of rent, a phone repairer inflicted machete cuts on a laborer and appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

Raphael Abiwu, who was accused of inflicting injury, entered a guilty plea.

Mrs Patricia Amponsah presided over the court, which found the accused guilty on his own plea but postponed punishment until December 1.

As a result, Abiwu has been remanded into legal detention.

Meanwhile, the court has ordered Abiwu to pay the complaint GHS5,000 in compensation.  Abiwu informed the court that he had previously paid the complainant’s GHS4,000 medical charges.

Inspector Rosemond Anyane, prosecuting, stated that the complainant, Isaac Frimpong, shared a residence with the defendants at Baatsona, Accra.

According to the prosecution, on November 2, 2022, at around 0600 hours, the complainant and two other witnesses in the case went to demand rent from the accused individual.

The complaint stated, Abiwu refused to pay and urged the complainant to leave and return after work.

The prosecution also said this resulted in an exchange of words and a brawl in which the accused inflicted machete cuts on the complainant’s head and left hand.
