Suspected National Security operatives are said to have been ambushed by an armed group at Tan-Nyeli in the Karaga district of the Northern Region.
The incident occurred on Thursday, October 20th, while security personnel were on a reconnaissance mission following intelligence about the existence of a suspicious Arabic learning camp in the community, according to a senior member of the Karaga District Security Committee who confirmed the incident but requested anonymity.
According to information obtained by JoyNews, security personnel in three pickup trucks were attacked at the camp’s entrance, resulting in a fierce firefight that lasted approximately 10 minutes.
A camp member confirmed that security personnel were able to break up the ambush and kill one of the attackers. They also stated that the body was removed by security forces.
The incident, according to the community’s Assemblyman, Mohammed, was a covert operation that took place behind the district authorities’ backs. He stated that there is widespread anxiety among the community’s residents because they have yet to come to terms with the details of the incident.

It is still unclear whether this was a counter-terrorism operation conducted by the National Security Agency or one involving the National Police Intelligence Directorate, as neither has publicly confirmed the incident, and attempts to confirm have been futile.
However, a source within the district security committee insisted that the operation was carried out by the National Security Agency and that they had been informed that the person killed in the gun battle had ties to a foreign terrorist armed group.
Some community members described the deceased as a Fulani cattle herder and a notorious bandit leader who made a name for himself by being involved in and orchestrating several kidnappings and robberies in the area.
