Nana Akufo-Addo Congratulates Nigeria’s President-Elect Bola Tinubu

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended warm congratulations to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, following his victory in the country’s closely contested 2023 presidential election.

In a social media statement issued shortly after the announcement, President Akufo-Addo described Tinubu’s win as a testament to the confidence Nigerians have in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and expressed optimism for stronger bilateral ties between Ghana and Nigeria.

“On behalf of the Ghanaian people and their government, I warmly congratulate the APC Presidential Candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on his victory in the Nigerian presidential election on Saturday, February 25th,” the Ghanaian President wrote.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted that Tinubu’s victory paves the way for the continuation of APC governance, which he believes will bring positive outcomes in governance, economic development, and rule of law in Africa’s most populous nation.

“President-elect Bola Tinubu’s victory ensured that the ruling APC Government was given four more years in office, which, I am hopeful, will go a long way towards improving the quality of governance, the rule of law, and the performance of the Nigerian economy,” he added.

He also emphasized the long-standing diplomatic and historical relationship between the two West African nations, describing it as rooted in shared values of freedom, development, and prosperity.

“I expect the President-elect to follow in the footsteps of previous Nigerian leaders, and to deepen even further the strong friendship that exists between Nigeria and Ghana.”

Tinubu Declared Winner After Tight Race

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, was officially declared winner of the February 25 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after four days of vote collation.

INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu announced that Tinubu secured 8,794,726 votes, surpassing Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 6,984,520 votes, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), who received 6,101,533 votes.

Despite winning a similar number of states as his two main opponents, Tinubu clinched the presidency with the highest nationwide vote count.

As Tinubu prepares to assume office, President Akufo-Addo’s message reinforces Ghana’s commitment to fostering regional unity, peace, and cooperation.
