My daughter was taken to the hospital after the Uruguay defeat – Ayew, Andre

Ghana captain Andre Ayew has termed the Black Stars’ elimination from the 2022 World Cup as “unfortunate,” while also revealing his daughter’s breakdown during the Uruguay encounter.

The 32-year-old missed a penalty before La Celeste scored twice in six minutes to seal a 2-0 win at Al Janoub Stadium on Friday, thus ending Ghana’s group-stage campaign.

Andre sent a post on Instagram 24 hours after the game, explaining his hardships, including the loss of his “godson” before the game versus Portugal.

“Our final group match outcome was not what we had hoped for in the competition, but sadly, it turned out this way,” the statement stated.

“In the last several days, I’ve had some pretty difficult moments.” My godson died the morning before the Portugal game, and my daughter was also sent to the hospital following the Uruguay game. She is improving, thanks to the Almighty Allah.”

The most capped Ghanaian player in history believes that obstacles like the one in Uruguay would help the Black Stars perform better, closing with the motto of Ghana’s two most glamorous teams, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, as an incentive.

“These trying times will inspire me to come back stronger and better in the future, and I hope the Black Stars will as well,” the message concluded.
