George Mireku Duker, Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has categorically denied allegations that he is involved in illegal mining, also known as galamsey.
Nana Nyonwah Panyin IV, a sub-chief of Dompim-Pepesa in Tarkwa in the Western Region, made the accusations.
The Chief claimed that Mr. Duker, who also serves as the MP for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, owned a galamsey concession in the area.
Mr. Duker, however, told Citi News that he has never been involved in galamsey.
“I implore Ghanaians to take this statement with a grain of salt.” They should also be aware that I will not waver in my commitment to my role as Deputy Minister in charge of mining. I also know that this is an attempt to distract you from your strategy so that they can have a field day. As a result, we will not back down. We will work hard to get the right thing done.”
The Special Prosecutor’s Office in Ghana has launched an investigation into suspected corruption and corruption-related offences involving illegal small-scale mining, also known as galamsey.
