The Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining wants Akonta Mining Limited officials prosecuted.

The Lands and Natural Resources Minister directed the mining company yesterday to cease operations after conducting mining operations in Samreboi, Western Region, despite the fact that the company lacks mineral rights to conduct mining operations in the Tano Nimiri forest reserve.

In an interview with Citi News, Coalition Convenor Ken Ashigbe called for the prosecution of those responsible for Akonta Mining Limited’s operation in the Nimri Tano Forest reserve.

“This will be a very good example to make if we truly want to solve the problem of galamsey, which is being run by the rich in society.” If the President truly wants to stop this, the directors of this company must be arrested.”

“If the court finds that these directors did, in fact, violate the rules, they will be dealt with in accordance with the law.” This will serve as a deterrent to others once completed.”
