Man captured on video assaulting sex worker granted bail

Godwin Bayor, 42, was granted GHS 20,000 bail with two sureties by the Cape Coast Circuit Court 2 for allegedly assaulting a sex worker.

Police in the Central Region arrested Godwin Bayor on Monday for physically assaulting the woman in a video that has since gone viral on social media.

The accused was charged with assault and causing unlawful harm, but both charges were dismissed.

After hearing from both the prosecution and the defendant, the court presided over by Her Worship, Veronique Praba Tetteh, adjourned the case to April 4, 2022.

According to the narration accompanying the video, the suspect refused to pay after using the woman’s services, resulting in an exchange of words.

The suspect, who was driving a government-registered vehicle, GV-127-16, is said to have hit the woman in the face several times during the altercation while she held on to his shirt, insisting that he pay her.

According to police, the incident occurred on March 6, 2022, in Cape Coast, and the driver was arrested on Sunday, March 13, 2022, following a complaint by the woman.

“His arrest follows a Police investigation into a viral audiovisual tape intercepted in which a man was captured assaulting a lady in the night,” the police said. The victim then filed an assault complaint with the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Cape Coast, on Sunday, March 13, 2022.”
