Bawku Central MP and Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has condemned the killing of Mohammed Seidu Akugri, the Bongo District Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), describing the act as both “gruesome” and “dastardly.”
Mr. Akugri was reportedly shot and killed, and his body set ablaze in Nangodi, a community near Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 20, 2025, Mr. Ayariga expressed his deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, calling him a “comrade” and a committed public servant.
He urged law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate the crime and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
Mahama Ayariga called on residents to remain calm and continue supporting the ongoing peace efforts being led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to resolve tensions in Bawku.
He also commended the youth of Bawku for their recent display of restraint and reaffirmed their collective commitment to peace.
According to him, significant progress has been made in restoring stability in the area, and no one should be allowed to derail that process.
