Mahama: 2024 Election Is a Battle Between Ghana and the NPP

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has declared the upcoming December general election a defining moment for Ghana, framing it as a contest between the country’s future and the current ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking at the funeral of former Minister of Information and Member of Parliament for Talensi, John Tia Akologo, Mahama emphasized that the 2024 election is not just a political competition between the NDC and NPP, but a national rescue mission.

“This election is between Ghana and the NPP, not NDC and NPP,” Mahama said. “We need to reset our nation. We need to rescue our country from the crisis in which it has been plunged by the NPP administration.”

Mahama asserted that the NDC represents the hopes and aspirations of the majority of Ghanaians and is committed to securing victory for the sake of the nation, not for personal or party gain.

“We are determined to win this election – not for ourselves and not for the NDC – but for Ghana,” he added.

He also issued a strong caution to the ruling party, stating that the NDC will resist any attempt to manipulate the election results.

In a call to religious leaders, Mahama urged the clergy to not only preach peace, but also justice, as the country prepares for a potentially pivotal election.

What’s at Stake?

Mahama’s remarks underscore growing political tensions as the country grapples with economic challenges, inflation, and concerns over governance. His message taps into a broader narrative of national renewal, positioning the NDC as the vehicle for change.
