EPISODE 7

“Appreciate even your partner’s worst characteristics; if you try to change them, you may lose them; it’s okay to point them out occasionally.”
It was a Saturday, so I expected her to oversleep like she usually does, but I was surprised to wake up without Barbara beside me, snoring away.
I thought I was keeping an eye on her when I carried her in last night. Did I sleep off? ” I questioned myself.
I went down to the living room and looked around, but there was no sign of my wife.
My eyes were drawn to the food on the table, then last night’s crappy food she served came to mind. I quickly stepped out, and her car was still parked in the garage. My gateman, Ibweke, was whispering to me that he saw her leave earlier when Barbara came in.
I’m sure her heart skipped a little when she saw me.
“I left you breakfast.” She said swiftly.
“Yes, but I don’t want it.”
Okay, but I’m sorry about last night. Today is better. ” Darl…
“Babs, I quickly cut her off before she could finish. I don’t need any drama this early morning. “
She appeared to be in tears as she walked away.
I wished I could comfort her, but my ego was holding me back.
Babs was in and out of rooms all day until I heard a knock on the outside door while I was trying to nap in the sitting room.
My demeanor changed when I opened the door to see who it was.
“Livie,” I retorted.
“Hello, Clyde,” Livie said with a grin.
I froze at the door for a minute, then I heard his husky voice trailing off.
“Are you going to let me in?”
There came footsteps from inside the room and immediately I knew it was Babs. I stepped aside to let Livie in.
Babs, came face to face with us and greeted him.
Livie made his way over to hug Babs, “Come on, let’s sit here. Babs, attend to our guest”, I interrupted.
We exchanged pleasantries as he followed me to the sitting area. Babs brought him some water to drink with a grin on her face.
“Hello, Livie.” She said again.

I gave her a look that would have given her a heart attack if she hadn’t understood what I was saying.
She swiftly rushed to sit beside me.
“Can I have some water too?” I just didn’t want Babs close to Livie.
“What brought you here today? It’s been a while.” I asked Live.
“Am I no longer allowed to visit my friends and a patient?”
I grinned. “I was being sarcastic and wondering how you found our place.”
I only inquired to satisfy my own curiosity.
“Oh how! I’ve been here twice, but you’ve been absent both times. I always seem to arrive at the wrong time.” Livie said sipping on his water.
“Wow! I wasn’t told you visited.”
“Barbara probably forgot.” Livie countered.
“Yes, she did.” I chuckled and glared in the direction Barbara went earlier.
“I haven’t seen you guys in a while and Barbara hasn’t shown up for any of her appointments. She keeps ignoring my calls too.”
Babs entered just as he explained why he was there.
Dropping the glass of water on the table beside me, she made a gesture to talk but I quickly interrupted.
“Emm, we are around…….. “I was saying when Barbara cut me off.
I was already furious and picturing what they might have done in my absence when her voice trailed off softly.
“We were away for a while but I did notice your calls and intended to return them.”
I wasn’t sure if Dr Livie believed my wife’s perfect lie but he left after a few minutes on an emergency call, he got.
I was still in my thoughts when it occurred to me, that he must probably have Babs new number.
‘OMG!!! Babs, you’ve killed me,’ I thought silently.
I saw him off to his car and returned to find Barbara waiting with her arms folded behind the door.
I stared at her in bewilderment because I had no idea Babs was such a good liar.
