EPISODE 6
By: Loudest Thoughts
“Egos are deal breakers, don’t carry them with you everywhere.”
Barbara knocked on my door in the middle of the night during the second week of our fight.
“Please open the door, Clyde.” She mumbled.
“What do you want?” I thundered. “I’m not in the mood for sex.”
“Look, I’m sorry for speaking to you the way I did last week.”
“And?” I managed to ask her softly.
“I want you to know that I love you, and if I have to cut off my male friends for us to stop fighting, I will.”
“Why should I believe you, Babs?”
“I did the last time; you saw us over a friendly dinner.” And that was the last time I saw or heard from Livie, so whoever you saw with him recently, wasn’t me.
I kept quiet while her voice faded away into thin air. I tiptoed to the door and peeped through the knob, and then I saw her walking away dejectedly.

“We can talk in the morning,” I said when she turned around after hearing my door creak.
Before she could say another word, I rushed back in, closing the door behind me.
I made it a point to avoid her the next morning, as I had done the previous week, so I skipped all her breakfasts.
We were always at each other’s throats with each chance we got. Well, more like, I was always fighting her.
I eat what she cooks in the evenings, but we barely spoke.
I moved back into our matrimonial room when my mother announced she was coming over.
Mrs Obi, my mother, always had my back so I had no doubt she’d be on my side when Barbara tried to sabotage me, her only son.
She eventually didn’t make it that week. And the moments spent back in our bed made me realize I missed my wife but at the same time I didn’t want to let my guard down.
