The Islamic cleric who was arrested in Karaga with 12 of his followers has been charged by the police with organized robbery and kidnapping.
On September 30, Shaykh Sidi Doukoure and his followers were apprehended by National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) officers.
Following a preliminary investigation, seven of his followers were released without charge, leaving the Imam and four others in custody.
According to the charge sheet obtained by JoyNews, the Police in Accra received intelligence on September 29 that the accused were involved in a series of robberies and kidnappings in the North East, Northwest, Savannah, and Bono regions.
According to police intelligence, the Imam runs an Arabic school on his Karaga compound, which he uses as a ruse to teach his students how to use offensive weapons and engage in robbery activities.
Abdul Salam Tuferu, Hassan Sulemana, Ibrahim Bukari, and Mohammed Amadu are the other four.

On October 12, 2022, they are scheduled to appear in court.
Meanwhile, the Imam, a Burkinabe emigrant, is being investigated separately for alleged links to jihadist groups in Burkina Faso.
