‘It’s cheap to blame Ayew for the missed penalty’- Kudus

Mohammed Kudus, a Ghana midfielder, says it will be cheap to blame Andre Ayew for the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

Sergio Rochet saved the Ghana captain’s early penalty before Uruguay struck twice in six minutes to defeat the Black Stars 2-0 on Friday at Al Janoub Stadium.

The defeat ends the season of the 2010 quarter-finalists, while the win was insufficient to advance La Celeste to the knockout stage.

After the game, Kudus, 22, gave a mature interview in which he deflected criticism from Ghana’s under-fire captain.

“The simplest thing we can do is blame one individual or whoever for the elimination,” Kudus explained. “I also had chances in the second half.”

I don’t believe the penalty has any influence on overall performance.

“After the penalty miss, he was still in the game and stood up for the whole team like everyone else, but the result went the other way, so we learned from it and stayed optimistic.”

Otto Addo, whose tenure as Ghana’s coach was set to end in December, revealed his departure at his post-match press conference.
