IGP arrives in Wa – Meets with overlord over recent killings

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), is in Wa, the Upper West regional capital, following the killing of private security personnel in the area.

He also paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of the Wa Traditional Area, Wa Naa Seidu Fuseini Pelpuo IV, along with some members of the Police Management Board and the Upper West Regional Police Command.

Previously, the IGP and members of the Police Management Board and the Regional Police Command went on a security tour of the municipality.

The Interior Minister, Hon. Ambrose Dery, was the first to arrive in the region and held a closed-door meeting with regional security.

He was accompanied by security council members to the palace of the overlord of the Waala traditional area, where he assured the government’s commitment to ensuring peace and security in Wa.

Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo, the overlord of the Waala traditional area, expressed satisfaction with the government’s efforts thus far to restore peace in the Wa township.

The IGP’s first visit to the area is to brief the service on the new security measures put in place to bring peace to Wa and the Upper West region as a whole.

In Wa, ten private security guards have been killed by unknown assailants in the last nine months, with the most recent incident occurring last Friday.

This angered youth in the area, who protested the incessant killings.

Ambrose Dery, the Minister of the Interior, has met with leaders of the Waala traditional area and has promised thorough investigations into the matter.
