An agent claiming to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States national government has claimed that Instagram celebrity Hushpuppi has been charged again after US prosecutors submitted court documents proving that he committed fraud and laundered over $400k while in prison.
The documents, which were presented before the United States District Court for the Northern District of California on March 16, 2022, revealed new evidence indicting HushPuppi of fraud and money laundering in a U.S. Federal correctional facility.
According to court documents, Hushpuppi participated in the purchase and laundering of Economic Impact Payment debit cards obtained fraudulently from stolen data of US citizens and residents while incarcerated in a US Federal correctional facility.
According to the CARES Act, Economic Impact Payments are financial assistance provided by the US government to US residents. Debit cards are one method by which eligible US residents can receive their Economic Impact Payments.
According to the documents presented in court, hackers use data from US residents to file and obtain Economic Impact Payments debit cards. They sell these EIP cards to other cyber criminals in underground marketplaces.
In a court filing, US authorities stated that although prisoners have limited access to telephone, video, internet, and computer use due to their right to privacy. Hushpuppi, like the other detainees, was given access to the computer network.
However, security guards at a federal prison in the United States noticed Hushpuppi was using the internet more frequently between January 28 and March 4, 2022.
A special system was set up for him, and his activities were tracked for seven days.

Hushpuppi was discovered to be actively purchasing EIP debit cards from an underground cybercriminal marketplace called Stimulus Card (“https://stimuluscard.com/”). Hushpuppi purchased 58 EIP debit cards worth $429,800 on the site while being recorded and laundered the money through one AJ.
