Gov’t Secures Major Data Bundle Increases Across All Telecom Networks Effective July 1

The Ministry of Communications has announced significant increases in mobile data bundle allocations across all major telecommunication networks in Ghana, effective July 1, 2025. The move, aimed at improving digital accessibility and value for money, follows successful negotiations between the government and telecom operators.

Communications Minister Samuel George made the announcement at a press briefing in Accra, highlighting what he called a “milestone outcome” of direct engagement with network CEOs.

“I am pleased to announce that my engagement with the CEOs has resulted in the following specific measures,” Mr George stated.

Network-Specific Increases

AirtelTigo Ghana (AT Ghana):

  • 10% increase across all data bundles
  • GH₵400 bundle upgraded from 195GB to 236GB

Telecel Ghana:

  • 10% increase across all data bundles
  • GH₵400 bundle increased from 90GB to 250GB

MTN Ghana:

  • 15% increase across all data bundles
  • Restoration of GH₵399 bundle offering 214GB, replacing a previous downgrade to GH₵350 for 92.88GB

Minister George acknowledged the financial implications for telecom providers but emphasized the public benefit:

“I am aware these increases will come at considerable cost to the network operators. However, I am glad that our engagements and consultations are bearing fruit for the Ghanaian people.”

He further expressed appreciation to the CEOs of MTN, Telecel, and AT Ghana for their cooperation, noting the development as a positive example of government-industry collaboration.

This policy shift comes amid growing consumer complaints about shrinking data values and rising costs. The Ministry of Communications has pledged to make data more affordable and accessible as part of Ghana’s broader digital transformation agenda.

The new bundles are expected to improve consumer satisfaction and enhance the digital experience for millions of Ghanaians who rely on mobile data for education, business, and everyday communication.
