Ghanaians have been reacting to Queen Elizabeth II’s death, the UK’s longest-serving monarch.
She died at the age of 96 at Balmoral, after reigning for 70 years.
Her family gathered at her Scottish estate after health concerns arose earlier in the day.
Since her accession to the throne in 1952, the Queen has witnessed enormous social change.
Her eldest son Charles, the former Prince of Wales, will lead the country in mourning as the new King and head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms following her death.
Buckingham Palace issued a statement saying, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.”
“The King and Queen Consort will spend the evening at Balmoral before returning to London tomorrow.”
The Queen visited Ghana twice, the first time from November 9 to 20, 1961, and the second time from November 7 to 9, 1999.
