Ghana: Public transport runs into traders
At the Suame roundabout in the Ashanti Region, a commercial vehicle known as Trotro collided with pedestrians and food vendors.

According to reports, one person died while being rushed to the hospital.

The witnesses stated, two pedestrians were rushed to the Tafo Government Hospital after suffering severe injuries.

Some of the pedestrians hawking on the roadside were unharmed.

The accident occurred when a commercial Toyota Commota with the registration number AS 3987-13 veered off his lane, colliding with street vendors.

The incident occurred on January 26, 2023.

One of the passengers in the vehicle narrating the incident, Kofi Richard, said “The vehicle was packed with passengers travelling from Pankrono to Kejetia.

“When the car arrived at the Suame roundabout, it veered off and crushed three traders.

“One of the women, believed to be in her mid-40s, was trapped under the car for nearly 20 minutes before being rescued and transported to Tafo Government Hospital.”

A few minutes after arriving at the hospital, health officials pronounced the female trader dead.

It will be remembered that in July 2018, one person died and six others were injured when a truck carrying cement blocks veered off course and collided with traders in Ashaiman, Greater Accra Region.

The injured, a man and five women, were taken to Tema General Hospital.

The truck, registered ER 5112, was transporting cement blocks from Mandela Park to the Ashaiman main station when the brakes failed.
