Atsu, aged 31, tragically lost his life in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6, 2023. His body was recovered on Saturday, February 18, from the rubble of his residence in Hatay, southern Turkey. He had been declared missing for nearly two weeks before the heartbreaking discovery.

His remains were flown to Ghana on Sunday, February 20, where a government delegation, relatives, and supporters received him with full state honors.

Christian Atsu was more than a footballer — he was a symbol of hope, humility, and generosity. The winger earned 65 caps for the Black Stars and had a distinguished club career that included stints with Chelsea, Newcastle United, Everton, and Hatayspor in the Turkish Super Lig.
