Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has been relieved of his duties.
This was stated in a letter written to him on behalf of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante.
The letter, dated Monday, October 17, 2022, stated that the Ministry of Education had informed the President’s Office that the exigencies that required Prof Opoku-skills Amankwa’s and expertise no longer existed.
“As a result, the President of the Republic has directed that your secondment be terminated immediately and that you return to your position at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.”
In January 2021, Prof Opoku-Amankwa was appointed as the Service’s Director General on secondment from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). This was extended six months later.
However, Nana Asante Bediatuo’s letter stated that the extension was in violation of the Public Services Commission’s Human Resource Policy Framework and Manual.
