Five people, three Nigerians, and two Ghanaians, who attempted to flee police custody at the Awutu Bereku District Police Command have been apprehended again.
The five suspects, who had been imprisoned for a variety of offenses including stealing mobile phones and air conditioners, attempted to break into the cell where they were being held around 1 a.m. on Monday morning with a chisel and a hammer but were stopped by officers on duty.
According to a Citi News source, the suspects were scheduled to appear in court this week but attempted to flee to avoid jail time.
According to sources, the individuals were almost finished with their escape plan because they had already broken the metal bars of the cell, but they were re-arrested by officers on duty who heard a loud noise from the cells and decided to check only to discover that the suspects were almost finished with their escape plan.
