Families of the murdered Takoradi girls have asked the government to send them copies of the DNA test results that confirmed the death of their kidnapped relatives as soon as possible.
They are also demanding that the remains be returned to the families for an independent DNA test, as well as a proper state burial for the girls if the government believes they were murdered.
Relatives of the murdered and kidnapped girls told Citi News today, Monday, at a press conference organised by the Concerned Mothers Movement at Diabene, that they still do not believe the murder story.
As a result, the affected families want their demands met before any burial.
“We are demanding a copy of the DNA test because the family has not received any report that the test was conducted,” Rebecca Quayson, sister of one of the murdered girls, said.
“Second, the families want to run their own DNA tests.” If the police are correct and these girls are indeed dead, we request that they be given a state burial. “The government must also provide financial assistance to the families because it has not been easy,” she said on their behalf.
Ruth Abakah, 19, Priscilla Blessing Bentum, 21, Ruth Love Quayson, 18, and Priscilla Koranchie, 15, went missing between July and December 2018 in one of the most publicised criminal cases in recent history.
The incident sparked a national debate, with many public protests held, particularly in Takoradi, to demand the girls’ return and to pressure the government to act quickly.

Human remains discovered in a sewage system in Takoradi near the home of the main suspect in the case were later identified as those of the girls.
Following the discovery of the skeletal remains on August 2, 2019, and subsequent investigations, which included the results of DNA samples taken from the families, the accused were charged with conspiracy and murder.
Meanwhile, two Nigerians, Sam Udeotuk Wills and John Orji, were sentenced to death by the Sekondi High Court, presided over by Justice Richard Agyei Frimpong, for their roles in the kidnapping and murder of four girls.
