The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man posing as a medical doctor for defrauding unsuspecting individuals under the guise of facilitating international travel opportunities.
The suspect, identified as Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah, was apprehended on Thursday, June 6, 2025, in Kasoa Crispo City, Central Region, following an intelligence-led operation by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID).
According to a police statement released on Monday, June 9, the suspect was arrested while wearing a white lab coat with a stethoscope around his neck. He had allegedly arranged to meet yet another potential victim he had lured through online communication.
A search of the premises led to the discovery of multiple medical items in his possession, including:
2 stethoscopes, 3 intravenous (IV) drips, 5 syringes, 2 sample bottles, 1 roll of plaster, 6 bottles of vaccines, 1 Ghanaian passport, Cash amounting to GH¢8,500.00
During interrogation, Kow-Assifuah confessed to impersonating a doctor at the United Brain Hospital located at Mallam, Accra. He also admitted to using this false identity to initiate intimate relationships with women online, through which he convinced them to pay for fake travel arrangements to Europe.
He is currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations, and will be arraigned before court in the coming days.
