President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has described the police’s three-year failure to apprehend Ahmed Hussei-killers Suale’s as “unfortunate.”
President Akufo-Addo said the inability to determine whether the investigative journalist was killed for his profession or otherwise is harming Ghana’s press freedom image.
“Unfortunately for us, despite the extensive efforts of the police and the CID, we have yet to apprehend the perpetrators of Suale’s death,” he lamented to the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Wednesday, October 26 at the Jubilee House.
“That’s unfortunate. So, despite the fact that he is a journalist, we still don’t know why he was killed, whether it was because of his work or for other reasons.”
On Wednesday, January 16, 2019, Ahmed Hussein-Suale was shot three times on his shoulders by two men on motorcycles near his Madina home.
The attackers were said to have waited for hours before carrying out the heinous crime.
He was then a part of Tiger Eye PI’s investigations, which resulted in a landmark expose of corruption in Ghana football.
Despite the fact that a few people have been arrested for questioning, police are still investigating the crime.
President Akufo-Addo assured the GJA leadership of the country’s general safety of journalists.

“The safety of journalists in Ghana must be considered sacred; sacred from community members, sacred from state agencies, and we must live in a country where journalists feel safe to go about their work because the work they do for the country and the community is extremely important.”
The leadership of GJA had called on the President after assuming the reins as executives of the Association.
