Kwasi Bonzoh, the District Chief Executive of Ellembelle, who was detained by police for alleged obstruction in the saga of the missing excavators, has been granted bail.
He is scheduled to appear in Takoradi Habour Circuit Court on September 8, 2022.
Mr Bonzoh was charged with five counts.
He will face assault, conspiracy to assault, resisting arrest, and two other charges.
The other four accomplices arrested alongside the DCE were not granted bail.
Selomey Erica Abekah, Mr Bonzoh’s lawyer spoke to Citi News after his release.
“All five defendants have been charged.” Their statement of charges has been taken. They will appear in court on Thursday. They are charged differently. Mr Bonzoh is facing five charges. Only Mr Bonzoh was released on bail.
The other suspects are in police custody.”
Previously, the Ellembelle DCE’s lawyer was denied access to her client.
Mr. Bonzoh previously claimed that police in the area failed to protect excavators seized from illegal miners in the area, and thus the earth-moving equipment could not be found.
Police in the area dismissed the DCE’s claim and began an investigation into him.
On Tuesday, one of the missing excavators was discovered.
