Donald Trump sued for fraud over family business

A fraud lawsuit has been filed against Donald Trump and three of his children following a New York investigation into their family business.

It claims that between 2011 and 2021, the Trump Organization committed “numerous” acts of fraud.
New York Attorney General Letitia James has asked a court to prevent Mr Trump and his children from serving as officers or directors in any New York corporation.

The Trump Organization has denied all allegations of wrongdoing.
Mr Trump and the Trump Organization have been accused of inflating real estate values in order to get banks to lend on more favorable terms.

“With the assistance of his children and senior executives at the Trump Organization, Donald Trump falsely inflated his net worth by billions of dollars in order to unjustly enrich himself and cheat the system,” said Ms James in a statement.

Ms James, New York’s top lawyer, wants the Trump Organization barred from engaging in any future real estate transactions in the state.

She went on to say that she has referred several criminal charges to federal prosecutors as well as the Internal Revenue Service.

Ms James also named Donald Trump’s three eldest children, Donald Trump Jr, Ivanka, and Eric, as allegedly complicit in the fraud.

Ms James made the announcement after rejecting at least one offer to settle the long-running civil investigation into the company’s business practices.

The attorney general stated that she hopes to recover an estimated $250 million (£220 million) as a result of the fraud.
