Chapter 4

The football team always had practice after school hours. There was an upcoming event and they needed to be extra prepared for it. Stacey sat on the bleachers while they practiced. A few teammates thought she was there to watch Steve practice, considering the number of times they’ve been spotted together.

But, Stacey was there for a different reason. For one, she couldn’t stop thinking of her nightmare and wanted time alone to herself. She wore her headphones and bumped her head to the punk rock music blasting her eardrums. That was her only cure.

Steve, on the other hand, couldn’t stop staring at Stacey which made him lose focus.

“What’s the problem, Steve? Get your head in the game!” his coach yelled.

“Sorry, Coach,” he apologized.

“What’s the problem with you, man? You keep staring at the chic on the bleachers, I thought you and Tiffany were still a thing,” one of his teammates, Dylan asked.

“No, man. I and Tiffany were done ages ago. Keep up, dude.”

“So you have a new girlfriend now? Damn, Tiffany’s gonna kill you both,” Dylan said, mockingly.

“Shut up, man! What the hell is wrong with you,” Steve said, pushing Dylan to the ground.

“It was only a joke, man. Why are you getting worked up over a harmless joke,” Dylan formed a fist.

The coach blew his whistle before things got out of hand.

“Steve! In my office now!”

“Fuck this!” Steve cussed as he stormed out of the field.

Stacey wondered what caused the fight, even though it was a bit interesting to watch.

She heard the coach blow his whistle again and resorted to checking the time on her phone.

“Shit, it’s late!” she said and hurried out of the bleachers into the field, her hands ducked into her pocket of her as she kicked the grass. As she approached the parking lot, where she caught sight of Kevin and his friends.

“Is that princess Stacey I see?” Kevin asked sarcastically.

Stacey ignored him and tried to walk away, but Kevin grabbed her by the arm and pulled her backward.

“Where do you think you’re going, Stace?” he whispered into Stacey’s ear.

Stacey had never felt so much hatred for one person.

“Let go of me, numb skull,” Stacey said, trying to pull away from him.

“What did you just call me?” Steve asked angrily.

“She’s feisty,” one of Kevin’s friends said.

“And it’s gonna cost her,” Kevin replied. A disgusting grin grew on his face.

Steve just left his coach’s office when he heard loud laughter coming from the parking lot. He shocked to see Stacey on the ground.

“Hey! Let go of her!” Steve yelled as he ran to the scene. He gave Kevin a punch to the face which sent him flat to the ground. Steve tried to punch him again but got punched on his torso which sent him to the ground as well. Kevin got on his feet and shoved his foot in Steve’s tummy.

“Stop, stop it. You’re hurting him,” Stacey cried out.

She had no idea what happened but she suddenly felt a surge of energy rise from within her. She held her hands out to Kevin and his friends and sent them flying up away from Steve and tossed them aside, leaving them unconscious.

Steve stared in amazement at what had just happened. Stacey too couldn’t believe what she had just done.

She stared back at Steve and ran as quickly as she could.
