Two-time winners Chelsea began their Champions League campaign with a shock defeat at Dinamo Zagreb.
The Croatian champions have a woeful record in this competition, having won just five of 43 games prior to this meeting, but they hung on tenaciously after taking a first-half lead.
Mislav Orsic scored in the 13th minute, racing through from the halfway line and beautifully dinking a finish past the charging Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Dinamo came agonizingly close to a second goal, but Arrizabalaga superbly tipped Stefan Ristovski’s thunderous long-range effort onto the bar.
Last-minute signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made his Chelsea debut, and despite having a goal ruled out for offside, the former Arsenal captain appeared slow.

Armando Broja came on for Aubameyang just before the hour mark, but the Albanian had little impact in Thomas Tuchel’s men’s overall disjointed performance.
Chelsea launched a late assault on Dinamo’s goal, and the hosts were relieved to see Reece James’ low shot rattle the post with five minutes remaining.
