Chelsea fired manager Thomas Tuchel after a Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday night.
After 20 months as manager of Chelsea, the 49-year-old former Borussia Dortmund and Paris St. Germain departs.
Tuchel’s coaching staff has been placed in temporary charge by owner Todd Boehly until a replacement is found.
According to a club statement, the owners believe it is “the right time” to hire a new head coach.
Chelsea said:
“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to express its appreciation to Thomas and his team for all of their efforts during their time with the Club.” After winning the Champions League, Super Cup, and Club World Cup during his time at Chelsea, Thomas deserves a place in the club’s history.
As the new ownership group approaches 100 days since taking over the Club and continues to work hard to move the club forward, the new owners believe the time has come to make this transition.
” As the Club moves quickly to appoint a new head coach, Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and preparation for our upcoming matches.” ” There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made.”

Tuchel was appointed to replace Frank Lampard on January 26, 2021, and led the club to their second Champions League title four months later.
Later that year, he added the UEFA Super Cup and the Fifa Club World Cup.
