Emmanuel Nyanteng, assembly member for Aburaso in the Ashanti Region, wants the Ghana National Fire Service to look into recent fire outbreaks in the area.
His request comes after a former Ashanti Regional Director of Audit Service was burned to death after a fire gutted his five-bedroom house in the community last Saturday.
Stephen Dapaah, 74, was identified as the deceased.
Three other occupants of the house were injured, and one person who lost consciousness was rushed to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment.
The Assemblyman told Citi News that the latest incident brings the total number of fire outbreaks in the community to seven, a worrying situation.
“All I want to do is use this medium to appeal to authorities and those who are concerned.” In this particular area, we have seen a number of fires. So they should come to our aid and investigate the matter so that such an incident does not occur again.”

The deceased’s son, two grandchildren, and daughter-in-law were among those injured.
Earlier in February, the Ashanti Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service stated that more fire incidents would be recorded in the region in early 2022, citing 260 cases in January alone.
In recent years, fires have destroyed properties worth millions of Ghana cedis and displaced thousands of people.
The Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, ACFO 1 Henry Giwa, told Citi News that the situation is not as dire as it appears because his organisation has increased fire-related sensitization.
Some Kumasi residents have also asked the government to provide fire officers with the necessary equipment to assist them in fighting fires.
According to them, fire officers frequently complain about a lack of adequate water hydrants during fires.
