Arrested Mankessim chief is still alive in custody – Police

The police have denied reports that Christopher Ekow Clarke, popularly known as Nana Clark, the Tufuhen of Ekumfi Akwakrom, has died.

According to earlier reports on Saturday, September 24, Nana Clarke drank poison to kill himself in order to avoid the embarrassment the crime had caused him and the people of Ekumfi Akwakrom.

“The media report that the chief arrested in connection with the murder of a prospective student-nurse at Mankessim has died is false,” police said.

After kidnapping Georgina Asor Botchwey, a nursing student who had been missing for weeks, the chief and accomplice Michael Darko buried her.

The two accused were arraigned in a Cape Coast District Court on Thursday, September 22 and remanded to appear in court on Tuesday, October 4.

“As a result, we implore the public to treat the report with the contempt it deserves.”
